  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste

Spices:

  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (or more to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Serving:

  • Cornbread “tombstones” for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Meat: In a large pot, brown the ground beef and pork over medium heat. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: Add the onion and garlic, sautéing until softened.
  3. Add Spices: Stir in the chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  4. Incorporate Ingredients: Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, kidney beans, and black beans.
  5. Simmer: Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30-45 minutes, until the chili is thickened.
  6. Serve: Serve hot with cornbread “tombstones” for dipping.
