Ingredients

Scale

Flatbread and Toppings

  • 2 stone-fired flatbreads
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • Ketchup, for drizzling
  • Mustard, for drizzling
  • 2 Roma tomatoes, sliced 1/2-inch thick
  • 2 pickles, thinly sliced
  • Garlic aioli, for garnish
  • Baby arugula, for garnish

Cheeseburger Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 1 lb whole milk mozzarella cheese, freshly grated

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper to prepare for baking the flatbreads.
  2. Par-bake Flatbreads: Brush the melted butter evenly around the edges of the flatbreads and sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Place the flatbreads on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 10 minutes, allowing the crust to start forming.
  3. Brown Beef: While the flatbreads bake, heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until it is fully browned. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then drain any excess grease from the pan.
  4. Melt Cheese: Add the American cheese slices to the skillet with the browned beef and stir until the cheese has melted and combined well with the beef.
  5. Assemble Flatbreads: Remove the partially baked flatbreads from the oven. Drizzle ketchup and mustard in a zigzag pattern over the surface. Then evenly distribute the grated mozzarella cheese on top, followed by the cheesy ground beef mixture, tomato slices, and pickle slices.
  6. Bake: Return the assembled flatbreads to the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the mozzarella cheese is melted, bubbly, and the crust is golden brown.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Once baked, garnish each flatbread with garlic aioli and baby arugula. Slice into portions and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute stone-fired flatbreads with naan or pita if unavailable.
  • For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Mozzarella can be replaced with provolone or another melting cheese if preferred.
  • Use low sodium ketchup and mustard for a reduced sodium option.
  • Ensure to drain excess fat from the beef to keep the flatbreads from becoming greasy.
