This recipe features a savory mix of cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, cocktail onions, and a blend of spices, topped with crispy, golden-brown panko breadcrumbs for a delightful crunch. Perfect for parties or casual snacking, this dip brings bold onion and smoky paprika flavors with a hint of horseradish heat.

Ingredients

Scale

Breadcrumb Topping

  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Dip

  • 16 ounce jar cocktail onions, drained well
  • 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions: Chop the drained cocktail onions into smaller bite-sized pieces and set them aside for mixing later.
  2. Toast the breadcrumbs: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the panko breadcrumbs along with the onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Stir continuously until the breadcrumbs turn golden brown, then transfer them to a bowl and set aside.
  3. Divide breadcrumbs: Transfer half of the toasted breadcrumbs to a separate bowl to be used later for topping the dip.
  4. Make the dip mixture: To the bowl with the remaining breadcrumbs, add the softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, ketchup, sugar, horseradish, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper if using, dried parsley, and the chopped onions. Use a hand mixer to blend all ingredients until smooth and well combined.
  5. Chill and store: Transfer the combined dip mixture to a serving bowl. If not serving immediately, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate to allow flavors to meld.
  6. Serve: Just before serving, sprinkle the remaining toasted breadcrumbs and a little extra dried parsley on top for a crunchy garnish and enjoy your Bloomin’ Onion Dip!

Notes

  • For best flavor, chill the dip for at least an hour before serving.
  • If you prefer a spicier dip, increase the cayenne pepper to 1/4 teaspoon.
  • Use freshly toasted breadcrumbs to maintain crispiness when serving.
  • This dip pairs well with fresh vegetable sticks, chips, or crackers.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
