Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 wheel Brie cheese (8 ounces or about 225 grams, cold from refrigerator)
  • ⅓ cup good-quality fruit preserves or jam (such as fig, mixed berry, or apricot)
  • ¼ cup chopped nuts (such as pistachios, pecans, or walnuts)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 small sprig fresh herbs (such as rosemary or thyme) or a few fresh berries for garnish (optional)
  • Sliced baguette, crostini, crackers, apple slices, or pear slices (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prep tray: Preheat your oven to 350℉ (175℃) and line a small baking sheet with parchment paper, ensuring the paper extends beyond the edges of the Brie wheel to easily lift it after baking.
  2. Add cheese: Remove the Brie wheel from its packaging, keeping it cold, and place it on the prepared parchment paper on the baking sheet.
  3. Cut cheese (optional): Use a sharp knife to make shallow crosshatch cuts on the top rind of the Brie, spacing them about ½ inch apart. Cut through just the rind layer without going deep into the cheese. This step helps the preserves and nuts adhere and slightly infuses flavor.
  4. Add preserves: Spoon ⅓ cup (about 5 tablespoons) of your chosen fruit preserves evenly over the top of the Brie, spreading gently with the back of a spoon.
  5. Add nuts: Sprinkle ¼ cup of chopped nuts evenly over the preserves layer, adding a crunchy texture to the soft cheese and sweet topping.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the Brie softens and just begins to ooze at the edges. The cheese should remain mostly intact and hold its shape to facilitate serving.
  7. Rest: Remove the Brie from the oven and let it rest for 2 to 3 minutes to settle before serving.
  8. Add honey and herbs (optional): If desired, drizzle 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup over the top for extra sweetness. Garnish with a small sprig of fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme, or a few fresh berries for color and aroma.
  9. Serve: Use the parchment paper to lift and transfer the warm Brie to a serving platter. Surround with sliced baguette, crostini, crackers, or apple and pear slices. Serve immediately while warm for the best melt-in-your-mouth experience.

Notes

  • Keeps well for about 1 day if refrigerated; reheat gently before serving again.
  • Choose preserves that complement Brie’s mild creaminess, such as fig, apricot, or mixed berry.
  • Use nuts that add nice crunch and flavor contrast like pistachios, pecans, or walnuts.
  • Optional herbs add visual appeal and subtle herbaceous notes; thyme and rosemary work especially well.
  • Serve with a variety of dippers to accommodate different tastes and textures.
  • Do not overbake; Brie should be melty but still hold a wheel shape for easy serving.
