Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup vegan butter (or shortening)
  • 1 1/2 cups cane sugar (organic)
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • Salt (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Add the Cider and Corn Starch: In a small sauce pot, combine the apple cider and corn starch. Stir until mostly dissolved.
  2. Melt Butter and Sugar: Over high heat, add the butter and sugar. Constantly stir with a wooden spoon until melted and bring the mixture to a boil. Adjust heat to keep it at a medium boil for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Pour and Cool: Turn off the heat and carefully pour the caramel into a bowl. Allow it to cool in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to thicken before use.
